Homemade Bath Salts

Uplifting Lemon Zest Bath Salts

Unwind after a busy summer's day with this super easy to make recipe for lemon zest bath salts. Uplifting, all-natural and packed with detoxifying and skin loving properties, this mix will help get rid of uncomfortable, itchy skin, relax your muscles and invigorate your mind.

All you will need:

  • 2 cups (170g) your choice of salt (Epsom, Dead Sea, etc)
  • 2 Teaspoons of your choice of oil (I like to mix Jojoba Oil with Vitamin E)
  • 5-10 drops of Sweet Orange or Lemon Essential Oil
  • The zest of 1 lemon - Optional
  • 1-2 drops of Natural Colouring in yellow - Optional
  • Baking sheets

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine your choice of salt (you can also add baking soda to the mix) with the lemon zest and oil and mix well until it reaches a grainy and wet consistency.

  2. Stir in the essential oils, making sure the scent is distributed evenly across the mixture.

  3. If using colouring, add a few drops (a little goes a very long way so start with the smallest quantity possible). Mix well so you achieve an even tone throughout the salts. Don't be alarmed if your bowl becomes stained, this should easily wash out.

  4. Line a baking tray with grease-proof paper and place your salts on top, distributing evenly. Set your oven to a very low heat and let the salts dry out slowly for 20-30 minutes. Keep a careful eye on them and stir them occasionally. MAKE SURE THEY DON'T BURN! You can choose to skip this step but I find they end up looking clumpy and feeling really greasy.

  5. Let your salts cool. Once they're room temperature, you can choose to smash them up a bit using a mortar or leave them rough and ready. I leave you to decide on this one!

  6. Place your finished product into a pretty jar and close tightly with a lid for extra freshness. If you're gifting these, design a cute label and ribbon with yarn. Pinterest-ready!

And there you have it, a super easy and inexpensive way to bring even more natural goodness into your beauty regime. Experiment with different oils and scents, adding things like tea leaves or rose petals for extra pampering power!
